Significance
Hanuman Jayanti, on the full moon of Chaitra, celebrates the birth of Hanuman — son of Anjani and Kesari, blessed by Vayu, and the living embodiment of strength joined to humility. His devotion to Ram is held as the highest form of bhakti: service without a thought of self.
Devotees mark the day with recitations of the Hanuman Chalisa — often 11 or 108 paths — and offer sindoor, since Hanuman once covered his body in it upon learning it kept Ram well.
How it is celebrated
- Recite the Hanuman Chalisa and Bajrang Baan.
- Offer sindoor and chola to Hanuman's murti.
- Offer boondi or besan laddoos as prasad.
- Read or listen to the Sundara Kanda.
