Sunday — the day of Surya

Sunday (Ravivar) belongs to Surya, the sun god. Worship at sunrise is considered most powerful: an arghya of water offered toward the rising sun, the Gayatri Mantra, and for many households a Ravivar vrat for health and success. Red and copper are the day's colours.

What to do today

• Offer arghya (water) to the rising sun.
• Recite the Surya Mantra, Gayatri Mantra or Aditya Hridaya.
• Those keeping the Ravivar vrat eat once, before sunset.
