Parvati, daughter of the mountain king Himavan, is the gentle mother goddess and the devoted consort of Shiva — the source from which Durga, Kali and Annapurna arise. She is worshipped for marital happiness and family well-being. Teej and the Mangala Gauri vrats of Shravan are especially hers.
